If you’ve been following along on our travels, you know that we ended up in Florida during the nationwide coronavirus shutdown in March 2020.
We put together a couple of ideas of things you can do during this time in Florida, not including all the boring (but productive) stuff like getting organized at home!
Please note that rules, laws, regulations, and curfews vary greatly by area so these may not be allowed or open in your area. Be sure to check with the appropriate parties before planning anything.
There are at least 2 drive-thru zoos in Florida, and they are currently open for business since they do not require you to get out of your car.
Check out Wild Florida outside of Orlando, which offers a drive-thru safari park that you can go through as many times as you want. The current cost is $15/person (buy tickets online) and you can do the whole thing in 30 minutes-2 hours. You can go through it as many times as you want.
We saw camels, zebras, giraffes, bison, alligators, and more.
Check out this list from Visit Florida for 5 more drive-thru zoos.
There are many places in Florida to fish, we were fortunate to be able to do it in our backyard. Some fishing bridges and boat docks are still open to the public as long as you follow the guidelines of staying 6 feet from strangers.
We bought fishing poles and bait at Walmart and fished the day away, catching some mangrove snapper and a catfish. Most were too small to keep, but it was fun and a good way to get outside and pass the time.
Amazon also has fishing poles like this one, although their Prime deliveries have slowed down for non-essential items.
Paddleboarding, Kayaking, & Canoeing
Take advantage of living near the water and get some exercise! We are fans of the inflatable versions of each of these water toys because they’re cheaper and more portable. They won’t last you forever, but they can keep you from going crazy during the quarantine!
Some options from Amazon…
Take A Virtual Tour
Museums, parks, and other beautiful places are now offering virtual tours of their locations for FREE.
Check out this list of 12 museums from around the world you can visit including the Getty, Guggenheim, Van Gogh Museum, and more.
This list includes zoos and theme parks like Disney Land, LEGOLAND Florida, SeaWorld Orlando, the Georgia Aquarium, the Houston Zoo, and more.
Make Exercise a Habit
The most obvious thing you can do during this time is to EXERCISE! Take your dog outside for long walks, try running once a day, or follow one of the many FREE virtual workouts being offered by gyms like Planet Fitness.
It’s important to remember that we are all in this together, and there’s no greater blessing than to be healthy and with your loved ones during this difficult time.
A HUGE thanks to all our health heroes who are on the front lines of this virus.
Remember to check the CDC guidelines to get the latest info on the virus and see how you can prevent it in your community.
